Held at Niigata Betsuin, which was built in 1871 as a Jodo Shinshu Nishihongwanji temple. “Otori-koshi” commemorates the death anniversary of Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Shinshu, to honor his virtues and hold a memorial service. At Niigata Betsuin, the anniversary is observed earlier, attracting many worshippers from within and outside the Yoita region each year.
