In the early Meiji era, numerous believers who were exiled from Nagasaki maintained their faith despite torture and imprisonment, ultimately sacrificing their lives in this land. The 'Otome Toge Festival' is dedicated to these Christian martyrs. During this festival, believers form a procession centered around a statue of the Virgin Mary, making a pilgrimage towards Otome Toge, located about 2km from the Tsuwano Catholic Church. At noon, a solemn outdoor mass is held, and the hymns dedicated to the martyrs inspire a pure impression not only among the faithful but also visitors who come for sightseeing.
