Mamada's Ja-ga Maita (Snake Festival)

間々田のじゃがまいた(蛇まつり)
A festival held before the rice planting season to pray for a bountiful harvest and the dispelling of epidemics. The main participants are children who carry a giant snake with a dragon's head and serpent's body, over 15 meters long, and parade through the town shouting "ja-ga maita, ja-ga maita, April 8th ja-ga maita." Until around Showa 30 (mid-1950s), this was held on the 8th day of the 4th month of the lunar calendar. Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the nation.
