Hida Furukawa Festival: Awakening Drums

飛騨古川祭・起し太鼓
This is a traditional ritual of the annual festival of Keta Wakamiya Shrine, located in the town, which has been held for more than 400 years. It is designated as an important intangible folk cultural asset of the country. On the night of April 19, a spectacular taiko drumming ceremony, praised as a unique festival, takes place. The following day, nine elegant floats appear, presenting intricately mechanical dolls and children's kabuki, creating a gorgeous traditional picture scroll. Held on the same day every year.
